Every student should seek out further information on these potential careers through professional organizations and websites for each graduate program he or she intends to apply.<\/div>\n<p><\/div><\/aside>\n<p>Physicians diagnose and treat individuals suffering from illness or disease. This requires the ability to perform physical examinations, take medical histories, and interpret diagnostic tests. Physicians can work in many different specialties, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, and other fields. According to the <a title=\"Physicians and Surgeons Occupational Outlook\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/healthcare\/physicians-and-surgeons.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. Department of Labor Statistics<\/a>, the need for physicians is anticipated to grow 24% between 2010 and 2020, especially in rural and urban locations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are two types of physicians: M.D.\u2014Doctor of Medicine\u2014and D.O.\u2014Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. M.D.s also are known as allopathic physicians. While both M.D.s and D.O.s may use all accepted methods of treatment, including drugs and surgery, D.O.s place special emphasis on the body&#8217;s musculoskeletal system, preventive medicine, and holistic patient care.
