Golam Mathbor, Ph.D., interim dean and professor in the School of Social Work, recently spoke about civic engagement, leadership development, and public service among Bangladeshi Americans at Time Television\u2019s 12th anniversary celebration in New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event drew approximately 700 attendees and featured House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies as the keynote speaker and chief guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, \u201cBangladeshi American Civic and Political Empowerment: Our Leadership and Our Future<\/a>,\u201d Mathbor encouraged members of the Bangladeshi American community to build on the accomplishments of previous generations by becoming more involved in civic life and public service in American society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBangladeshi Americans have built a remarkable community in this country. Our first generation worked hard, built businesses, raised families, pursued education, and established a strong community institution. The next generation expanded that foundation. Now, it our responsibility to build something stronger, a culture of leadership and public service,\u201d Mathbor shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
