Ilyana Balaj, a sophomore political science student, presented at the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum<\/a> (HLPF), an event hosted under the UN Economic and Social Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balaj discussed her work related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16 and 17 during the side event, \u201cSailing for a Sustainable Future: Multi-Stakeholder Engagement for the SDGs<\/a>,\u201d which highlighted youth leadership for ocean and climate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSpeaking at the HLPF side event was an inspiring experience that highlighted how youth leadership and global partnerships can drive real progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. I was proud to represent Monmouth University and contribute to a dialogue centered on justice, inclusion, and sustainable development,\u201d Balaj said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, Balaj presented directly to stakeholders, activists, and UN personnel. In addition to discussing her contributions to both SDGs 16 and 17, which call for promotion of just, peaceful, and inclusive societies, and partnership, she discussed her advocacy work through Monmouth\u2019s debate and mock trial teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIlyana competed in four debate tournaments as a first-year student and has remarkably already won team and individual speaking awards in national competitions. She is a top student and a wonderful person who is driven to affect positive change at all levels,\u201d said Joe Patten, Ph.D., professor of political science and Debate Hawks advisor. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HLPF is the central United nations platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 SDGs<\/a>. It also reviews global progress, promotes accountability, fosters international cooperation, guides policy, and supports the implementation of SDGs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
