Susan Meyer, MFA, specialist professor in the Department of Art and Design, was awarded a 2026 fellowship at MacDowell<\/a> in Peterborough, NH, where she was in residence for two weeks this June. The focus of her residency was generating models for potential sculptures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While at MacDowell, Meyer engaged with a range of fellows working in multiple disciplines and with the public during MacDowell\u2019s Medal Day, a public event including open studios. Meyer will spend the remainder of the summer and beyond expanding upon the generative works created during her residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MacDowell is one of the nation\u2019s leading contemporary arts organizations, championing artists by giving them the time, space, and support essential to creating new work. Each Fellow receives three chef-prepared meals daily, a private studio and living quarters, access to the James Baldwin Library, and the opportunity to work alongside a rotating community of talented, multidisciplinary artists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the preeminent artist residency in the United States, MacDowell “attracts a growing audience of art lovers, creators, and supporters who turn to us to discover groundbreaking work and the artists behind it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MacDowell Fellows have earned more than 1,000 Guggenheim Fellowships, 35 National Book Awards, 38 Tony Awards, 106 Pulitzer Prizes, and other honors. According to the organization, MacDowell-supported projects “continue to shape culture and society in the U.S. and around the world. By bringing together artists across seven disciplines on our 450-acre wooded campus, we offer a rare balance of solitude and shared inspiration\u2014an environment where ideas flourish, breakthroughs happen, and enduring works of art are made.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
