Mihaela Moscaliuc, Ph.D., professor of English and graduate program director at Monmouth University, recently participated in the Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Nuevo Le\u00f3n (UANL) 2026 Poetry Gala<\/a> as part of the UANLeer University Book Fair held in Monterrey, Mexico. The event featured live poetry readings and was attended by over 500 members of the university and local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several authors shared their work and spoke with the audience as part of the seminar, \u201cSix Voices the Fray Servando Teresa de Mier Auditorium.\u201d As a featured reader, Moscaliuc read her poems \u201cDeep Cut: Overcoat,\u201d \u201cTempering,\u201d and \u201cDeep Cut: Bath,\u201d and gave a talk on exophony in poetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Monmouth University English professor Michael Waters, Ph.D., was also a featured speaker at this event, sharing his poems “Poinciana,” “Payer with Caravaggio,” and “Brooklyn Walk-Up,” translated by Frances Sim\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A collection comprising poems by Moscaliuc and Waters in the Spanish translation of Sim\u00e1n was published by the UANL in the prestigious series “El Oro de los Tigres.” The collection is titled \u201c4625 Millas,\u201d which is the distance between the two poets\u2019 birth places\u2014Suceava, Romania, and New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moscaliuc is the recipient of a 2025 Guggenheim Fellowship, two Pushcart prizes (for non-fiction and poetry), two Glenna Luschei Awards from Prairie Schooner, two Individual Artist Fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and a Fulbright fellowship to Romania. She has received residency fellowships from Hawthornden Foundation (Italy), The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, MacDowell, Rockvale Writers\u2019 Colony, and Ch\u00e2teau de Lavigny (Switzerland).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
