Susan Meyer, MFA, specialist professor in the Department of Art & Design, presented at the Foundations in Art: Theory and Education<\/a> (FATE) conference on April 10 in Tyson\u2019s Corners, VA. The educational association, FATE, is \u201cdedicated to the promotion of excellence in the development and teaching of college-level foundation courses in both studio and art history\u201d. The conference, \u201cNext Now<\/a>,\u201d focused on \u201cchallenging the established structures and assumptions that form our current understanding of what a foundational education in the arts is supposed to be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meyer presented and chaired \u201cThe Cut Up: Generating Content Through Collage.\u201d Fellow presenters included Jason Dunda, Illinois State University, \u201cAssembly Required: Collage as Community\/Plurality\/Discovery\u201d and Alexandra Robinson, St. Edward’s University, \u201cThe In from the Way Out: Cutting Things Up to Put Them Back Together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her presentation, Meyer shared analog and digital collages, as well as short animations created by students in her Basic Design & Composition and Basic Design & Color class, including: Anthony Daglia, Gina Dige, Breanna Guinta, Liam Lubitz, Dan Martin, Summer Reimet, Emmett Romilio, and Jessica Taylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
