The Media and Entertainment Law\/Sports Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association<\/a> will host a webinar featuring Lawrence Jones, former professor in the Department of Political Science and Sociology at Monmouth University, and three Monmouth alumni, Gabriella Griffo \u201924, political science and sociology graduate, Hannah Latshaw \u201922, psychology graduate, and Tyler Kudrick \u201924, political science graduate, on Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. The event, \u201cThe Call on the Field Stands: Armando Galarraga\u2019s \u2018Imperfect Game\u2019 and Lessons in Advocacy Learned by Young Professionals<\/a>,\u201d will discuss the case presented by Jones and students in his Law and Society course which attempted to overturn an incorrect call that cost Galarraga a perfect game for the Detroit Tigers in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moderated by Josh Frydman, WGN-9 sports anchor, the webinar will discuss the role of precedent in sports law, as well as principles of stare decisis and advocacy related to this case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original 83-page report<\/a> by Jones and his students was submitted to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred in 2022. Manfred, though declining to act on the ruling, later did a Zoom call with students to discuss the project. The case was also featured on ESPN\u2019s E:60 episode, \u201c28 Outs: An Imperfect Story\u201d in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
