Liminal Bodies and Space artists Linh Dao and Amanda Stojanov<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Amanda Stojanov, M.F.A., assistant professor of digital media in the Department of Communication, and Linh Dao<\/a>, former Monmouth University specialist professor and current assistant professor of interactive and graphic design at California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt, are showcasing their working in the national duo exhibit, “Liminal Bodies and Space<\/a>,” at the Reese Bullen Gallery at Cal Polytechnic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibit runs through Dec. 14 and is the second installment in a national exhibition series hosted by the gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Liminal Bodies and Space” highlights the distinct but echoed personal experiences of the artists as newcomers to the United States, illuminating the resulting transformation of their identities in the physical and virtual worlds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition emerges as a response to an elusive sense of belonging in America as others or foreigners. Their works explore the ongoing tension and fluidity within both personal and societal concepts of identity. They share their experience of femme and otherwise marked bodies as they adjust to the process of assimilation and the erosion of their languages, history, and cultures. The artists use technologies, in conjunction with expressive typography, to interrogate marginalized realities, including augmented reality, virtual reality, projections, performance, and interactive experiences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dao and Stojanov also held a five-day engagement with the Art + Film Department at the Humboldt campus, which included workshops for students as well as a public artist talk in the Reese Bullen Gallery during the opening reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
