Nicole Halliwell, DSc., OTR\/L, assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, and John Patro, OTD, OTR\/L, associate professor and chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy, presented at the 2024 American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Education Summit, held in Charlotte, NC, on Nov. 8-9. Representing Monmouth\u2019s OTD program, they delivered two presentations, highlighting innovative collaborations and partnerships that broaden the reach and depth of OT education both locally and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patro\u2019s platform presentation, \u201cDesigning Impactful OTD Capstones in Vietnam: A Cross-Cultural Approach<\/a>,\u201d showcased Monmouth University\u2019s pioneering efforts in international capstone opportunities. The initiative, developed in collaboration with Monmouth\u2019s School of Social Work, allows OTD students to complete capstone projects in Vietnam, providing students with unique cross-cultural experiences and equipping them with skills to address global health challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This endeavor underscores Monmouth\u2019s commitment to integrating international perspectives into OT education, preparing students for diverse, globalized career environments,” Patro said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halliwell and Patro also co-presented \u201cEmpowering Occupational Therapy: Integrating Multi-Sensory Environments and Community Partnerships<\/a>,\u201d a platform presentation that emphasized Monmouth\u2019s efforts to expand OT services through local community partnerships. The presentation highlighted the transformative impact of multi-sensory environments, designed in collaboration with community stakeholders, to enhance OT care for various populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patro added, “This initiative reflects Monmouth University\u2019s dedication to creating meaningful and accessible OT interventions that benefit the broader community.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both presentations sought to underscore Monmouth University\u2019s role in leading the charge for knowledge dissemination in occupational therapy. “The OTD program at Monmouth continues to build pathways for students and professionals alike, ensuring that OT practice remains impactful across borders and communities,” Patro concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
