Digital artwork by Jing Zhou, MFA, professor in the Department of Art and Design, and Johanna Foster, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Political Science and Sociology, was selected for display throughout Terminal A of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).<\/a> Digital artwork at the terminal is refreshed annually to highlight local art through a program led by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and to prioritize the New Jersey sense of place at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twenty New Jersey artists were selected from more than 1,000 submissions through a statewide open call led by the EWR Terminal A Art Advisory Council over six months. The council made recommendations \u201cbased primarily on the artwork, the artist\u2019s roots to the New York\/New Jersey region, and connection to the airport\u2019s host communities of Newark and Elizabeth.\u201d The Port Authority and the operator of Terminal A, Munich Airport New Jersey, then selected the artworks based on the council\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is truly humbling and an honor to have my artwork featured in this juried exhibition, which highlights the richness of New Jersey’s art and culture to a global audience,\u201d said Zhou. \u201cExhibiting alongside my colleague Johanna in this highly selective art show adds a special meaning to our display and is a wonderful celebration of the Department of Art and Design and the flourishing art community at Monmouth University!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To complement Terminal A\u2019s permanent art collection by 29 local artists, the Port Authority collaborated with the multimedia studio Moment Factory to create an \u201cimmersive digital journey through the use of the terminal\u2019s extensive network of large-scale multimedia screens.\u201d Large digital screens and totems throughout the terminal \u201cuse the latest in digital and printed display technology\u201d to reach millions of passengers who use the airport terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Port Authority Chairman Kevin O\u2019Toole notes that this showcase highlights the vast and diverse arts community around New Jersey. \u201cThe inclusion of an ever-expanding digital art program on our screens throughout Terminal A exposes the talents of our homegrown artists to millions of travelers from around the world who use our terminal, while also telling the story of New Jersey through the lens of the state\u2019s most creative residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
