Mihaela Moscaliuc, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of English and director of the graduate English program, was recently invited to participate as a guest writer at the 15th edition of the International Poetry Festival, Poes\u00eda en Paralelo Cero<\/a> in Ecuador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bilingual collection of Moscaliuc\u2019s poetry, Algunos Poemas Fugitvos<\/a>, translated by Frances Sim\u00e1n, was launched at the Cultural Center Benjamin Carri\u00f3n. She additionally participated in readings and panels held at different universities and colleges throughout Ecuador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Ecuador trip was just an amazing experience. I connected with many poets and their work and hope to collaborate on translating some of their work into English \u2026 I felt fully enveloped in poetry and its magic, although I do not speak\u2014though I understand some\u2014Spanish,\u201d said Moscaliuc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one of 50 poets attending the festival, Moscaliuc spent time with students from the Universidad de Otavalo and the Universidad Tecnica del Norte, while she read her work, and discussed the translation process of her poetry, at the Colegio Seneca, the Universidad Central de Ecuador, and the Cultural Center Benjamin Carri\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was Moscaliuc\u2019s first time attending Poes\u00eda en Paralelo Cero, though she did previously participate in an international poetry festival in Nicaragua. This October, Moscaliuc spent time as a guest writer on an immersive literary trip to Ireland with Zafira Demiri, an undergraduate English student, and Dorothy Doyle \u201923M, a student in the M.F.A. program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
