William M. Gorman, lecturer in the department of History and Anthropology, will be the keynote speaker at the County Clerk\u2019s 28th<\/sup> Annual Archives and History Day<\/a> on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Brookdale Community College. Gorman\u2019s address is titled \u201cEconomic Conditions in the United States and Their Effect on Business: Reflections at the Local Level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWilliam Gorman\u2019s presentation is especially relevant for this year\u2019s Archives and History Day theme of Business and Industry in Monmouth County: The Evolution of Manufacturing and Retail,\u201d said Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon. \u201cWe are thrilled that Mr. Gorman will be our event\u2019s keynote speaker to discuss the economic background that many of our local businesses existed in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be more than 50 local and state history organizations setting up displays on their organizations and on topics relating to New Jersey history at this event, open to all from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robert J. Collins Arena at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArchives and History Day is a wonderful opportunity to learn about our county\u2019s history and to interact with the people who are dedicated to preserving it,\u201d said Monmouth County Archivist Julia Telonidis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gorman has been a member of the Department of History and Anthropology at Monmouth University since 1987. During his time at the University, he has taught courses on Western Civilization, Critical Discourse, United States History survey, and Economic History. Over the past ten years, his principal assignment has been the teaching of a course in United States Economic History, which is one of his areas of specialization. His research interests include the federal budget, spending, national security, public policy, and U.S. economic history and policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has a Master of Science from Monmouth University and a bachelor\u2019s degree from Villanova University. He is author of the 2020 book, \u201cAmerican Economic Development from Historical and Contemporary Perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
