Monmouth University\u2019s Tuesday Night Record Club was honored by the Association for Continuing Higher Education at the organization\u2019s annual awards luncheon on Oct. 17. Tuesday Night Record Club was presented with the Distinguished Program Award (Non-Credit) for its “originality, innovation, and ongoing success.” David Hamilton Golland, Ph.D., professor and dean of the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences, was in Charleston, South Carolina, to accept the award on behalf of the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday Night Record Club was founded in 2016 by Kenneth Womack, Ph.D., professor of English and Popular Music, and is now in its eighth season. Its 80th meeting, devoted to Fleetwood Mac\u2019s breakthrough eponymous 1975 LP, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the Great Hall Auditorium. The first album in the series was Nirvana\u2019s “Nevermind.” In keeping with the club\u2019s motto, \u201cit\u2019s just like book club, but with records,\u201d the monthly program typically involves a multimedia presentation of a classic album. In order to stimulate its audience\u2019s learning beyond standard canonical boundaries, Tuesday Night Record Club regularly includes forays into jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and world music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tuesday Night Record Club provided audiences with biweekly virtual installments, while also featuring musical selections performed by the Blue Hawk House Band under the direction of George Wurzbach, specialist professor in the department of Music and Theatre Arts.
