Jonathan McElroy, Ph.D., professor in the Music and Theatre Arts Department, authored a chapter in the recently published, “The Routledge Companion to Creativities in Music Education<\/a>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chapter, “Students as the Educator: A Student-centric Model for Curriculum Development,” examines the inclusion of undergraduate students in the development of a portion of a music course\u2019s curriculum for a single semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research study sought to gain a better understanding of undergraduate students\u2019 educational experience through the creation, development, and execution of a curriculum of their design. The chapter concludes by presenting a general application of the findings to other music education settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Routledge Companion to Creativities in Music Education provides a wide-ranging survey of practice and research perspectives based upon the plurality of creativity in music as being of paramount importance to the field of music education. This volume draws together an array of international contributors, bringing together philosophical and applied foundations to illuminate the multiple forms creativity can take in the music classroom, and how new insights from research can inform pedagogical approaches.
