Callas\u2019s Eco Portrait Mask: Tidal Moon will be exhibited as part of the “UnMasked: Contemporary Portraiture” exhibit at The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences at Loveladies, New Jersey through Sunday, Aug. 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Callas, the exhibition invites artists draw from underneath the surface in order to reveal a deeper vision of portraiture. “Self or otherwise, the artist will intend to use presence of another person or object as an extension of traditional portraiture,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCOVID-19 and the Climate Crisis is a radical call to see ourselves differently. Masks not only disguise or protect, they also offer us a portal to a new self, an opportunity for transformation,\u201d said Callas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The juror for this exhibit is Jessica Todd Smith, Ph.D. Smith is the Susan Gray Detweiler Curator of American Art and Manager of the Center for American Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Callas is also exhibiting several pieces in Maine at the Mathias Fine Art\u2019s summer exhibit: \u201cBlue & Yellow: Persist.\u201d The show will be open through Oct. 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the show’s organizers, the exhibition focuses on the colors of Ukraine, noting, “creativity is countering the feeling of helplessness in the face of the destructive onslaught that is being visited upon a country fighting for self-determination. The colors of blue and yellow have much to offer to artist and viewer alike.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to Callas, the artists include: Max Bartsch, Michael Culver, Paul Feyling, Patt Franklin, Brigitte Keller, John Lorence, Kate Marohn and Lesia Sochor, Brenda Bettison, and Antoinette Prien Schultze.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
