Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon announced that Specialist Professor Melissa Ziobro will be the featured speaker at the County Clerk\u2019s 26th Annual Archives and History Day<\/a> on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Brookdale Community College. Ziobro will speak about the impact of 9\/11 on Monmouth County as we mark 20 years since the attacks. Her keynote address will pay tribute to the 147 Monmouth County lives that were lost that day, as well as the strength, resiliency, and heroism exhibited by the county’s citizens as the community joined together to serve, mourn, and heal in the tragedy\u2019s aftermath.<\/p>\n

\u201cProfessor Ziobro\u2019s presentation is especially relevant for this year\u2019s Archives and History Day theme, \u2018Facing Adversity: Monmouth Responds in Times of Crisis,\u2019\u201d said Hanlon. \u201cWe are thrilled that she will be the event\u2019s featured speaker to discuss one of the biggest crises ever experienced in Monmouth County.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ziobro currently serves as the president of Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region (OHMAR) and as the editor for “New Jersey Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal<\/a>,” a joint venture of the NJ Historical Commission, Rutgers University Libraries, and Monmouth University. She is currently a trustee of the NJ Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation, InfoAge Science and History Learning Center, and Ocean County Historical Society. She is newly appointed to the board of directors of Preservation NJ, and works regularly with other public history organizations such as the Monmouth County Park System, Monmouth County Historical Association, Monmouth County Historical Commission, Monmouth County Archives, National Guard Militia Museum of NJ, and many more. She also worked as a command historian at the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, NJ from 2004-2011.<\/p>\n

In addition to Ziobro\u2019s keynote remarks, the Archives Day event will feature an exhibit, accompanying catalog, and awards presentations. The event will include more than 50 local and state history organizations setting up displays on topics relating to New Jersey history and their organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cArchives Day is an incredible opportunity to learn about our county\u2019s history and to meet the people who are dedicated to preserving and sharing it,\u201d said Monmouth County Archivist Julia Telonidis. \u201cThe featured speakers are always major contributors to that experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
