Jessica M. Auriemma\u00a0\u201921, a recent studio art graduate, and Kimberly Callas, assistant professor of art and design, both have artwork featured in United Nations Academic Impact’s (UNAI) new virtual magazine, “The Art of Climate Action<\/a>.” The goal of the magazine is to address the growing recognition that education needs to adapt in order to address climate change, and find new ways of engaging young people with a topic that is often perceived as abstract, distant, and complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auriemma’s pastel drawing series, “Post Humanity,” is featured as a full-page spread in the magazine<\/a>. “Post Humanity” addresses climate change and the natural restoration process that the world would undergo if humans no longer existed. Callas has a 3D printed Eco-Portrait Mask included titled “Yarrow’s Second Sight.” Callas’s work focuses on the ‘ecological self’ and encourages viewers to understand humans as part of nature. Callas and Auriemma each have artwork that is also featured on the UNAI homepage. Each component of the “Post Humanity” series in available to view in greater detail, along with some of her other recent works, as part of Auriemma’s 2021 senior capstone presentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
