Performances beg<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n at 7 p.m. and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">were<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0part of the Light of Day\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">WinterFest<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in support of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lightofday.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Light of Day Foundation<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, an organization that produces music events worldwide to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Towards the end of the night, Monmouth students and alumni perform<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame drummer and original founder of the E Street Band,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Vini<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Maddog<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d Lopez. This event has become a highlight of the festival, drawing fans from all around the world, according to senior music industry major Zack Sandler, who is the musical director and producer of the show.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The festival began Friday, Jan. 10 in Montclair, New Jersey and ran through<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Jan. 19<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, with a special guest appearance by Bruce Springsteen on Saturday, Jan. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">18, at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sandler, who was working backstage at the Paramount, arrived for a sound check earlier <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Saturday<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0afternoon<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and explained, &#8220;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">All of a sudden, Bruce walks in the back door. His guitar tech slings that iconic butterscotch telecaster over his shoulders and Bruce took the stage. It was seamless. Once that happened, word got out to the general public. There were hundreds of fans waiting outside to see him as he left soundcheck. We all knew we were going to have a great night of rock n roll ahead of us.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Professor Joe Rapolla, chair of the music and theatre department and advisor to Blue Hawk Records, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">said, &#8220;T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">his was the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">20-year<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> anniversary of the event, and everyone appreciated Bruce making this appearance. He&#8217;s participated 16 of the last 20 years but, because of his schedule, it has been a few years since he&#8217;s attended.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">By the end of the night we were all onstage with Bruce.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sandler added<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> &#8220;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Light of Day Foundation puts Monmouth University students and alumni on stage in front of devoted and loyal fans from all around the world.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">P<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">roducing and promoting these events for the last four years has helped me practice and strengthen the concepts and lessons I&#8217;ve learned while in class at Monmouth University<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Monmouth University Department of Music and Theatre Arts, in partnership with the Leon Hess Business School and Blue Hawk Records, produce a show each year as part of the festival, which has been named one of the Asbury Park Press\u2019 \u201cCan\u2019t Miss Shows.\u201d Nearly 20 Monmouth University students and alumni have contributed to the jam session over the years, with many more university students, parents, alumni, and faculty in attendance.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The festival, now in its 20th year and the premier fundraising event for\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lightofday.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Light of Day Foundation<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, showcases over 150 musical acts at 30 venues over 10 days to raise money and awareness for the battle against Parkinson\u2019s and related diseases.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Asbury Park portion of the festival is the Light of Day flagship event<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0featur<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> over 100 local, regional and national artists performing in every venue during every hour of the day and night.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Rapolla, who<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> has been involved with the festival since 2006 as a performer,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> said, &#8220;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">It is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fremarkable opportunity for the students<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2014<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0who not only get great exposure<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202fbut also get\u202fgreat hands-on\u202fevent\u202fproduction and promotion\u202fexperience.
