Priscilla Gac-Artigas, Ph.D., professor of Spanish and Latin American literature in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, will travel to Cuba from June 20-30 for an invited presentation on innovative ways of teaching literature and other humanistic disciplines at the Human\u00edsticas International Conference.<\/p>\n

While in Cuba, Gac-Artigas will also chair a special panel on literature with the participation of Latin American writers and members of the Cuban Academy of the Spanish Language.\u00a0In addition, she will meet with colleagues from the Universities of Havana and of Matanzas, Casa de las Am\u00e9ricas (the best-known and most prestigious cultural institution in Cuba), and the Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed National Library.<\/p>\n

Gac-Artigas also plans to meet with several Cuban writers, among them Nancy Morej\u00f3n, one of the leading voices in Cuban poetry, and Yoani S\u00e1nchez, a renowned and internationally recognized Cuban blogger. During her travels, Gac-Artigas will publish her own blog, “Chronicles of a trip to the present, the past and the soul of Cuba.”<\/p>\n

Upon her return, Gac-Artigas expects to use the research materials collected to publish scholarly articles as well as enhance the classroom experience of Monmouth students studying Spanish.<\/p>\n
