{"id":40802236214,"date":"2019-03-27T09:34:54","date_gmt":"2019-03-27T13:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/?p=40802236214"},"modified":"2019-04-08T12:14:53","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T16:14:53","slug":"monmouth-bench-mob-returns-to-inspire-movement-with-march-madness-promos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/monmouth-bench-mob-returns-to-inspire-movement-with-march-madness-promos\/","title":{"rendered":"Monmouth Bench Mob Returns to Inspire Movement with March Madness Promos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.\u00a0<\/strong>(March 27, 2019)\u2014\u00a0Members of the infamous Monmouth Bench Mob have teamed up with Degree\u00ae Deodorant for a social media campaign launched during this year\u2019s March Madness basketball tournament.\u00a0Greg Noack \u201917 and Dan Pillari \u201918, who received national attention during the 2015-2016 basketball season for their creative sideline celebrations, are recreating\u00a0\u00a0their custom routines for promotional content being shared on the brand\u2019s Twitter account (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DegreeMen\">@DegreeMen<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The series of Twitter promos, which began running March 19 and will run through the end of the tournament, is in partnership with Degree\u00ae\u2014a brand dedicated to inspiring people to move more. Degree\u00ae tapped the former players to encourage fans to stay active from the sidelines and submit their own celebrations using the hashtag <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BenchMoves?src=hash\">#BenchMoves<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/DegreeMen\/status\/1110649027123654656<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor many serious athletes, the bench is the worst place to be,\u201d said Pillari, who graduated from Monmouth with a health and physical education degree.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cBut through my experience being on the [Monmouth] basketball team and a part of the Bench Mob, we found a way to bring people happiness, encourage our teammates, and celebrate group success.\u00a0\u00a0This partnership with Degree\u00ae is a fun way to come back and encourage fans to get involved and continue to spread positivity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noack, who graduated with a degree in business administration, said that the Bench Mob\u2019s legacy is bigger than just sideline theatrics.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThe name on the front of our jersey was way more important to us than any name on the back\u2014we were all playing for Monmouth,\u201d said Noack.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cEven when we [the Bench Mob] were getting the headlines, everyone was still rooting for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pillari and Noack said that they hope March Madness fans spread their love and support for their favorite teams by carrying on the Bench Mob tradition of unique celebrations\u2014whether that\u2019s people being inspired to move from a bench or a couch at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just doesn\u2019t get old,\u201d added Pillari.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIt helps the sport, people are more engaged, and the players and the fans have fun with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the 2015-2016 basketball season, the Monmouth Bench Mob gained national attention for its elaborate sideline celebrations. Featured in news outlets including USA Today, The Chicago Sun Times, ESPN, CBS Sports, The Washington Post, and Bleacher Report, the Bench Mob was dubbed the \u201cmost famous bench in college basketball.\u201d\u00a0That same season, the Monmouth men\u2019s basketball team defeated five power conference opponents (UCLA, Notre Dame, USC, Georgetown, and Rutgers) and received votes in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Polls for the first time ever.\u00a0\u00a0They finished the season 28\u20138 overall and 17\u20133 in MAAC play to win the MAAC regular season championship.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the infamous Monmouth Bench Mob have teamed up with Degree\u00ae Deodorant for a social media campaign launched during this year\u2019s March Madness basketball tournament.
