{"id":40802232598,"date":"2018-11-06T12:48:42","date_gmt":"2018-11-06T17:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/?p=40802232598"},"modified":"2019-02-12T14:47:36","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T19:47:36","slug":"documentary-play-on-children-sentenced-to-die-in-prison-to-be-performed-dec-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/documentary-play-on-children-sentenced-to-die-in-prison-to-be-performed-dec-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Documentary Play on Children Sentenced to Die in Prison to be Performed at Monmouth University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Monmouth University Center for the Arts, the Department of Political Science and Sociology, the Department of Criminal Justice, and the School of Social Work will present playwright\u00a0Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg&#8217;s\u00a0verbatim theatre piece &#8220;Life, Death, Life Again: Children Sentenced to Die in Prison&#8221; on Dec. 5 from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. in Pollak Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary play will share the stories of four people sentenced to life in prison for committing violent crimes as children, as well as the story of forgiveness from one victim\u2019s grandson. The performance will be followed by a panel discussion on themes discussed in the play, including restorative justice and radical forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Life, Death, Life Again&#8221;\u00a0is inspired by phone, mail, and email interviews Weill-Greenberg conducted from 2014 to 2017. \u00a0She interviewed people who committed violent crimes as children and were sentenced to die in prison, as well as victims of violent crimes who forgave the person who killed their loved one.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free and open to the public, but tickets must be\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.colab-arts.org\/calendar\/2018\/9\/25\/life-death-life-again-in-monmouth\">reserved online<\/a>.\u00a0Monmouth University faculty who wish to attend with their classes may RSVP by emailing Johanna Foster at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:jfoster@monmouth.edu\">jfoster@monmouth.edu<\/a>\u00a0with the class count.
