{"id":40802231396,"date":"2018-09-26T09:20:37","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T13:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/?p=40802231396"},"modified":"2018-10-01T14:31:30","modified_gmt":"2018-10-01T18:31:30","slug":"department-of-professional-counseling-to-present-oct-11-lecture-on-self-injury-and-suicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/department-of-professional-counseling-to-present-oct-11-lecture-on-self-injury-and-suicide\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Professional Counseling to Present Oct. 11 Lecture on Self-Injury and Suicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Monmouth University Department of Professional Counseling will present a guest lecture series presentation entitled \u201cSelf-Injury and Suicide: Is There a Connection and What Do We Do About It?\u201d on Thurs., Oct. 11 \u00a0from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event is facilitated by the department\u2019s alumni organization, Counseling Alumni Connection (CAC), and will take place on the University\u2019s main campus in the Edison Science Building Atrium.<\/p>\n<p>Dara Gasior, Psy.D., is this presentation\u2019s guest lecturer. \u00a0Gasior is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been working in the field for the past 20 years, and has extensive experience working with individuals struggling with significant mental health, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders.<\/p>\n<p>This program will educate about self-injurious behaviors, including the statistics, the most common misconceptions, and how to better understand this behavior. The relationship between self-injurious behavior and suicidal ideation, gestures, and attempts will be explored, and\u00a0Gasior will also review potential interventions for treating individuals who struggle with self-injury.<\/p>\n<p>Two continuing education credits will be provided, and the fee is $20 for alumni and professionals. Current students can attend this presentation free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>Registration and additional information regarding the guest lecture series presentation is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/department-of-professional-counseling\/guest-lecture-series\/\">available online<\/a>.
