{"id":40802230974,"date":"2018-09-19T10:07:33","date_gmt":"2018-09-19T14:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/?p=40802230974"},"modified":"2018-09-25T10:57:23","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T14:57:23","slug":"2nd-annual-current-topics-in-counseling-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/2nd-annual-current-topics-in-counseling-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Current Topics in Counseling Conference Set for Nov. 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monmouth University&#8217;s Department of Professional Counseling will present the 2nd annual &#8220;Current Topics in Counseling Conference&#8221; on Friday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. \u00a0The day-long conference is facilitated by the department&#8217;s alumni organization, Counseling Alumni Connection (CAC), and will take place on Monmouth&#8217;s main campus with the central hub located at Pozycki Hall.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will provide information and resources on important and timely counseling topics and is\u00a0open to professionals from all different disciplines and backgrounds including counselors, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, medical professionals, school personnel, higher education personnel, and anyone else in a helping profession. \u00a0The professional rate is $125, the Monmouth University alumni\/employee\/field supervisor rate is $100, and the current student rate is $50. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/department-of-professional-counseling\/conference\/\">Registration is open to the public until Nov. 2, 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s event features keynote speaker S. Kent Butler, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, NCSC, associate professor at the University of Central Florida. Butler\u2019s keynote address is titled &#8220;Privileged Equity: Removing Culturally Biased Barriers.&#8221; Following the keynote address, there will be one morning workshop session and two afternoon workshop sessions, with participants given the option to attend one workshop in each session. Presenters include Monmouth University faculty and alumni, as well as practicing counselors from the field. Topics include trauma and yoga, LGBTQQIA, ethics, addictions, starting a private practice, and art therapy.<\/p>\n<p>During the lunch hour in Anacon Hall, mental health agencies will be tabling with resources about their services, as well as internships and job opportunities. There will also be a student poster session highlighting the exciting research our faculty and students have been conducting.
