Monmouth University’s Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies, The Center for Professional Development in Nursing and Health, will present a twelve-hour Spanish for Health Professionals course during March, April, and May.<\/p>\n

Twelve contact hours will be provided. The Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies at Monmouth University is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited approver, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Provider number: P242-5\/12-15.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This course is designed to expand basic Spanish conversational skills to enhance vocabulary used in the healthcare setting. Thematic conversational practice will focus on the medical history, health, and medical scenarios. Key terms that are used in medical and informational forms will be highlighted. The course will be taught primarily in Spanish, and a light dinner will be served.<\/p>\n

Topics will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00d8\u00a0 Vocabulary related to the clinical setting<\/p>\n

\u00d8\u00a0 Medical procedures and clinical terminology<\/p>\n

\u00d8\u00a0 Cultural competency<\/p>\n

\u00d8\u00a0 Mock medical history interviews<\/p>\n

It is recommended that the participant have some basic knowledge of Spanish.<\/p>\n

Presenter:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dr. Sevi Avigdor was born in Lima, Peru, and earned his medical degree from the Complutense University of Madrid Medical School in Spain. He is Chief of the Surgical Endoscopy Units at Monmouth Medical Center and Jersey Shore Medical Center and currently has a private practice in Long Branch NJ. Dr. Avigdor has taught Spanish for healthcare providers for a number of years, noting that the challenges faced by the Spanish-speaking population heighten the need for improved communication strategies.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
