Monmouth University is very pleased to announce that former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman will be the 2013-2014 Public Servant-in-Residence.\u00a0The former governor will give select lectures and participate in public events on campus\u00a0during the fall and spring semesters.\u00a0Former New Jersey Governor Brendan T. Byrne served in the position in 2011-2012 and former Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court James Zazzali served in the role last year.<\/p>\n
“Governor Whitman’s deep knowledge of the issues and her extensive experience are invaluable,” President Paul R. Brown of Monmouth University stated.\u00a0“They will bring a ‘real world’ perspective to our students in particular and the Monmouth community in general.”<\/p>\n
Governor Whitman served as NJ’s 50th Governor from 1994 to 2001.\u00a0She entered the Statehouse as New Jersey’s first woman governor, the second Republican woman chief executive in any state, and the thirteenth woman governor in American history.\u00a0 As Governor, Whitman’s agenda focused on three central policy areas: economic growth, good schools and safe streets. Environmental protection and preservation of open space were high priorities as well.\u00a0 From 2001 to 2003, she served as the\u00a0Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).<\/p>\n
