{"id":32212263982,"date":"2012-03-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-03-26T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/global-understanding-convention-at-monmouth-university\/"},"modified":"2012-03-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-03-26T04:00:00","slug":"global-understanding-convention-at-monmouth-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/global-understanding-convention-at-monmouth-university\/","title":{"rendered":"GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING CONVENTION AT MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text\">Monmouth University Institute for Global Understanding is pleased to announce that its 11th annual Global Understanding Convention will be held April 2 to 6, 2012.\u00a0 The campus-wide interdisciplinary convention is free and open to the public.\u00a0 For more information, call 732-571-3526.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">This year\u2019s convention, \u201cFreedom, Sustainability, and Security: Creating Interconnected and Inclusive Communities,\u201d explores the complex relationships between the environment and human security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">On April 3, co-founders of the International Justice Project, Wanda M. Akin, Esq. and Raymond M. Brown, Esq., will give the keynote address \u201cFreedom, Sustainability, and Security: International Criminal Law and Human Rights,\u201d in Wilson Hall at 4:30 p.m.\u00a0 The event, sponsored by The Jack and Lewis Rudin Distinguished Speakers Series, is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">The International Justice Project\u2019s mission is to advance human rights through the rule of law and provide holistic support to the survivors of the world\u2019s most heinous crimes\u2014genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Wanda M. Akin maintains an independent practice in Newark, NJ and is an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University of Law and at Seton Hall University\u2019s John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations.\u00a0 She served as co-counsel to an accused at the U.N.-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone.\u00a0 She is a member of the List of Counsel eligible to represent accused and victims before the International Criminal Court (ICC) and currently represents the first Darfurian victims recognized by the ICC to participate in the case against President Oma al-Bashir of Sudan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Raymond M.
