{"id":32212263768,"date":"2012-01-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-25T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/monmouth-university-professor-publishes-article-on-how-universities-use-facebook\/"},"modified":"2012-01-25T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-25T05:00:00","slug":"monmouth-university-professor-publishes-article-on-how-universities-use-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/monmouth-university-professor-publishes-article-on-how-universities-use-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR PUBLISHES ARTICLE ON HOW UNIVERSITIES USE FACEBOOK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text\">Monmouth University Communication Professor Sheila McAllister\u2019s study examining Web sites and Facebook presences of the top 100 universities in the world was published in <em>Public Relations Review,<\/em> January 2012.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Professor McAllister\u2019s study examined if universities use new media tools and how the world\u2019s top universities use Facebook as an interactive forum that give voice to key stakeholders. The content analyses of the Web sites and Facebook platforms show that more than half of the universities have Facebook pages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">The key findings of the study include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"text\">\n<li>Only 39% of the Web sites offered links to the Facebook pages<\/li>\n<li>Users cannot post content or photos, or participate in discussions and wall posts on more than half of the Facebook pages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text\">Professor McAllister explains: \u201cThe voices of key stakeholders are being silenced via a media that is intended to provide open forums for dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Professor Sheila McAllister\u2019s major area of study is public relations, with primary emphasis on relationship building public relations activities via the Internet.
