{"id":32212263764,"date":"2012-01-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-26T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/cherish-the-ladies-at-monmouth-university-on-february-10\/"},"modified":"2012-01-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-26T05:00:00","slug":"cherish-the-ladies-at-monmouth-university-on-february-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/news\/cherish-the-ladies-at-monmouth-university-on-february-10\/","title":{"rendered":"CHERISH THE LADIES AT MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY ON FEBRUARY 10"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>According to <strong>Joanie Madden<\/strong>, \u201cIrish music is a music of emotional highs and lows\u2026it\u2019s breaking your heart one moment, then ripping your head off the next!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>For more than 25 years, the Grammy winning flutist, bandleader and tin whistle virtuoso has teamed with guitarist <strong><span>Mary Coogan<\/span><\/strong> to bring a willing worldwide audience on that marvelous rollercoaster ride \u2014 as the core of <strong><span>Cherish the Ladies<\/span><\/strong>, the all-female, international Celtic music supergroup that rewrote the ground rules in what was once a resolutely male-dominated genre.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout so many of those seasons, the Ladies have connected with a devoted following here on the Jersey Shore, via regular visits to the West Long Branch campus of <strong>Monmouth University<\/strong> \u2014 a family-friendly tradition that spans generations and seasons of the calendar year. <\/p>\n<p>On the evening of Friday, February 10, Madden, Coogan and the current Ladies lineup (Scottish pianist <strong>Kathleen Boyle<\/strong>, Irish accordionist <strong>Mirella Murray<\/strong> and the newest member, Boston-based fiddler <strong>Grainne Murphy<\/strong>) return to the <strong>Pollak Theatre<\/strong> for an event that brings the warmth, spirit and intimacy of Irish music \u201chome\u201d to their cherished local audience. <strong>Maura O\u2019Connell<\/strong> joins the all female Celtic ensemble along with other guest musicians and an all-star dance ensemble featuring champion dancers and former dance ensemble members of <strong>Riverdance<\/strong> and <strong>The Chieftains<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Subtitled <strong><em>Irish Homecoming<\/em><\/strong>, the 8p.m. concert \u2014 the band\u2019s first visit to the chilly Northeast following their twentieth annual Caribbean Cruise of Irish Stars \u2014 stands as a welcome reunion for the Ladies (who brought a touch of <strong><em>Celtic Christmas<\/em><\/strong> to the Monmouth stage in 2010) and their area fans.
