WOMEN’S SOCCER OPENS NCAA TOURNAMENT AT BROWN


WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Monmouth University women's soccer team returns to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and will play No. 16 Brown on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Stevenson-Pincince Field in Providence, RI.

Brown earned the automatic NCAA Tournament bid by winning the Ivy League with a 6-0-1 record and it makes its first postseason appearance since 1994. After winning its fourth consecutive MAAC Championship and fifth in the last seven seasons, Monmouth looks to advance in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

MONMOUTH STUDENT AND FAN BUS
Students and fans interested in taking a fan bus to the game are requested to sign up in Room 12 of the Athletics Building during the following times:
Wednesday 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Thursday 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

If you take the bus to the game, you must take the bus home from the game. The bus will leave Saturday at 6:30 a.m. from the OceanFirst Bank Center Circle and leave immediately following the conclusion of the game.

To sign up Monmouth students must bring their ID and a $10 deposit that will be returned on the bus. For employees and fans, a ticket for the game and the bus transportation is $30.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
Saturday's NCAA Tournament First Round game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and will be streaming live on the ESPN App. Mike Rubin and Mike Mancuso will have the call beginning at 12:30.

NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Monmouth makes its fifth NCAA Tournament trip since 2013 and its fourth consecutive appearance. It is Monmouth's seventh NCAA Tournament berth in program history (2007, 2009, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). The Hawks played at Virginia in 2016 and 2018, at Princeton in 2017, at Penn State in 2007 and 2013 and at Maryland in 2009.

CLASS OF THE MAAC
Monmouth completed its MAAC regular season schedule with a perfect 10-0-0 record to capture its seventh consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship. The Hawks became the first MAAC women's soccer team to go 10-0-0 in the regular season and 12-0-0 on the way to a league championship. Monmouth is the first MAAC program to win seven straight regular season crowns and the first to win four consecutive MAAC Championships since Loyola Maryland won five in a row from 2000-04.

Monmouth has won 23 consecutive games overall against MAAC opponents and owns a goal differential of 82-5 in those games. The 23-game conference winning streak is the longest such streak in the NCAA. The Hawks have won 14 straight home games against league opponents. Monmouth's seven-year MAAC regular season record is 63-4-3.

WINNING STREAK
Monmouth enters the NCAA Tournament on a 13-game winning streak, the program's longest winning streak under head coach Krissy Turner, and the longest winning streak since the program won 17 straight games spanning the 1994 and 1995 seasons. The Hawks have outscored their opponents 45-2 during the 13-game winning streak and the streak tied with Stanford for the longest active winning streak in the NCAA. Overall, Monmouth is unbeaten in its last 15 games (14-0-1).

ROAD WARRIORS
Monmouth is one of three teams in the nation (Rutgers, BYU) with an unbeaten record away from home. The Hawks went 7-0-2 this season, highlighted by a 4-0 win at No. 25 Texas on Sept. 15. The Hawks have won six straight road games entering Saturday's matchup.

SCHEDULE NOTES
Monmouth played three games against teams in the 2019 NCAA Tournament field. The Hawks defeated Texas, 4-0, and lost two 1-0 decisions to Hofstra and NC State in August.

SUPER SENIORS
The Hawks have eight seniors on the roster, seven of which have started a game this season. Over the last four seasons, Monmouth has won 59 total games, the most for a class under Krissy Turner and the second most in program history. Monmouth has won at least 14 games each of the previous four years. The seniors from 1993-96 won a program best 62 games.

AWARDS SEASON
Monmouth had a total of 15 All-MAAC honorees following the regular season. The Hawks had three major award winners as Lexie Palladino was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Anna Lazur was the Defensive Player of the Year and Amanda Knaub was the Goalkeeper of the Year. The trio joined Madie Gibson, Jill Conklin, Jess Johnson and Sarina Jones on the first team. Dana Scheriff, Maddison Perna and Jesi Rossman were second team selections, while Perna and Alexa Correa were named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. Jones was named the MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player, with Lauren Karabin, Conklin and Johnson collecting all-championship honors.

CAREER LEADERS
Madie Gibson is the fifth player in team history to reach 100 career points and she is one point behind Kristen McDermott (103) for fourth on the all-time points list. She is tied for fifth with 35 career goals and is second all-time in assists (32) behind Christie Pearce Rampone (54). Gibson is one of three active players in the NCAA with at least 30 goals and 30 assists in their careers joining Stanford's Catarina Macario (54G, 42A) and Marjorie Boilesen (33G, 38A) from Florida Gulf Coast.

Lexie Palladino has 20 goals and 55 points over her four seasons. Monmouth is 18-0-0 when Palladino scores a goal in her career. Palladino ranks 23rd in team history with her 55 career points.

STARTING FAST
Monmouth has won 51 straight games when scoring first. The Hawks are 44-1-0 over the four seasons when scoring more than one goal in a game. The last time Monmouth lost a game when scoring first and scoring more than one goal was Sept. 20, 2016 against Loyola Maryland (L, 3-2).

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE
Monmouth has allowed an NCAA-low four goals in 18 matches and the Hawks also lead the country with a 0.215 goals-against average. Goalkeeper Amanda Knaub leads the NCAA in shutouts with 14 and  goals-against average (0.215). Knaub enters the tournament third in the country in save percentage .917 and she owns a scoreless streak of 822:55. Knaub has a program-record 44 career clean sheets and her 14 shutouts are tied for second-most in a season in Monmouth history with Lia Fierro (2009).

BALANCED ATTACK
The Hawks have five players with at least 10 points in 2019. Lexie Palladino (9 goals) and Madie Gibson (8 goals) lead the team with 22 points each. Lauren Karabin has 14 points (5 G, 4 A), Dana Scheriff has five goals and three assists and Jill Conklin has 10 points with four goals.

Monmouth has outscored its opponents 46-4 this season and the 46 goals rank 16th in the NCAA. The 46 goals rank 11th in a single season in team history, three behind last season's mark of 49.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Saturday's game is the third meeting ever between Monmouth and Brown. Both of the previous two meetings have come in Providence, with Brown winning both games 2-1. The last contest was in 2010 and the first meeting was in 1988. Monmouth is 18-19-2 all-time against Ivy League competition.

MONMOUTH AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
The Hawks are 2-10 all-time against teams ranked in the Top-25, with both wins coming on the road. Monmouth earned a 4-0 win this season against #25 Texas and also defeated #17 Rutgers, 1-0, in 2010.
