WILSON AND AMONU TABBED AS MAAC PERFOMERS OF THE WEEK

EDISON, NJ – For the sixth week in a row, a member of the Monmouth University men's and women's track and field team has been honored in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's weekly awards. This week sophomore Chibuzo Amonu was tabbed as the Field Performer of the Week and graduate student Allie Wilson earned Track Performer of the Week. Amonu won two events over the weekend at home in the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational while Wilson broke her own school record in the 800 meters at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.

Wilson, the 2-time reigning track performer of the week, shattered her own school record set earlier this season in the 800-meter run by three seconds. She finished as the top collegian athlete in the race and shot up to second in the NCAA rankings for the 800 meters, which puts in a good position for qualification to the NCAA Indoor Championships. In addition to the school record breaking performances this season, she has also secured a spot in the U.S. Indoor Championships for the 1000-meter run.

Chibuzo is being honored by the league for the first time in her career after she won both the shot put and weight throw at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational this weekend. She won the weight throw on Friday with a mark of 57'3" and came back on Saturday to win the shot put with a throw of 46'7". Both of these throws are ECAC qualifying marks with the weight throw currently second-best in the MAAC while the shot put ranks third heading into this weekend's MAAC Championships.

In the USTFCCCA regional rankings, the Hawks currently rank 9th in the Mid-Atlantic region while the women are 6th. Both the men and women are ranked 1st in their MAAC rankings heading into this weekend's MAAC Championships. In the USTFCCCA event squad rankings, the Hawks rank in the top 50 in the following events: Men's high jump (25th), Men's long jump (17th), Men's shot put (14th), Men's triple jump (8th), Men's weight throw (32nd), Women's 800 meters (5th), Women's shot put (23rd) and the Women's triple jump (18th).

Amonu, Wilson and the Hawks will go up to the New York Armory seeking their sixth straight MAAC title this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The men's team will be looking to defend their title at the MAAC Championships and their 5th in the last six years.
