BLAMON NAMED CHAIR OF MAAC SAAC SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE

EDISON, NJ- Monmouth University women's track and field student-athlete Prisca Blamon has been appointed to the MAAC SAAC Social Justice Committee, which was created to combat racial inequality, promote gender equity, and create a more inclusive environment across the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The subcommittee will look to give power to the voices of minority student-athletes, raise issues for group discussion, create ways in which social change can come about, and work with coaches and administrators in order to create a more inclusive conference.

"For me to be selected into this position, it is very special," Blamon said. "It allows me to give a voice to those who felt as if they haven't had one before, myself included. While educating others on the experiences of their peers, I hope to force non-minorities to gain new perspectives on common issues."

The Social Justice Committee is composed of one student-athlete per school and will cycle through the other institutions in order to bring light to topics and conversations all around the conference. A meeting will be held every month in order to share different ideas and findings throughout the MAAC.

"This issue is important to me because racial discrimination is not just an issue within the college campus but also in the workforce reminding all of us that we are more than our uniforms," Blamon added. "In my times as Social Justice Chair, I hope to educate, bring awareness, and be a part of a generation to end racial injustice."
