LAZUR AWARDED MAAC POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced that former Monmouth University women's soccer student-athlete Anna Lazur '20 has been awarded the 2020 Bob McCloskey Insurance MAAC Postgraduate Scholar-Athlete Scholarship.

Bob McCloskey Insurance (BMI) provides annual postgraduate scholarships to two former student-athletes from the league's member institutions. The intent of the scholarships is to promote and encourage academically and athletically accomplished student-athletes to continue their education by attending graduate school. Lazur and Fairfield's Aidas Kavaliauskas were the two recipients of the 2020 scholarship.

As part of the selection process, the committee evaluates athletic and academic achievements, as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership.

"I'm extremely honored to have been chosen as the female recipient of the 2020 Bob McCloskey Insurance MAAC postgraduate scholarship and want to thank everyone from the MAAC," Lazur said. "I'm grateful for my experience at Monmouth, and as a part of the MAAC the past four years, as well as all of the support I've received along the way from my teammates, coaches, and everyone else involved in athletics. I wouldn't be where I am today without all of their support and I am excited to start this next chapter knowing my time at Monmouth has prepared me well for the future."

Lazur played a pivotal role on Monmouth's four consecutive MAAC Regular Season and Tournament Championship teams and capped her career by being named the 2019 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. In 2019, Monmouth's defensive unit led the nation in goals allowed (4), goals-against average and shutout percentage.

A two-time team captain, Lazur graduated in May with a 3.8 GPA in Health Studies and has plans to pursue a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at Rutgers University. She was a two-time Scholar All-East Region selection and named to the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society. Lazur also participated in a number of community service initiatives during her time at Monmouth, including Team IMPACT, Tops Soccer and volunteering with the Monmouth County SPCA.
