EVAN NIEDROWSKI QUALIFIES FOR NCAA OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

May 26, 2023

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Evan Niedrowski placed seventh in the men's javelin at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, securing a spot at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Niedrowski safely secured himself inside the top-12 – the necessary rank to advance – with a throw of 71.88m on his first attempt, besting his 70.04m mark at last year's East Regional.

It is the second time in as many years the sophomore has qualified for the championships. Earlier this season, Niedrowski set the school record with a 74.20m throw at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University in mid-April and was the 2023 CAA Champion.

Four other Hawks competed at the Preliminary Round this week, which was held at the University of North Florida, including two in the men's javelin. Chris Bagnell finished 34th after recording a 62.13m throw, and Taylor Boorse placed 41st with a 59.86m mark.

Redshirt senior and 2023 CAA Champion Ashley Navarro ran in the women's 800m event on Thursday evening, finishing seventh in her heat and 37th overall at 2:08.67. Keven Kevelier wrapped the week up for Monmouth with a 1.99m mark in the men's high jump – a mark that ranked 10th in his flight and 30th overall.

NOTES & QUOTES
"Overall, I was really proud of the way we competed this weekend. Four of our five student-athletes had never been to this competition before. They went up against some of the best in the nation and represented Monmouth well.

But this is not the end of the road. The 2023 outdoor season continues! Evan will be representing us at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. Fly Hawks!" – Head Coach Mike Nelson
