The Center for the Arts at\u00a0Monmouth University <\/strong>will be presenting the 25th<\/sup> Anniversary concert of On A Winter\u2019s Night<\/em><\/strong> from veteran singer-songwriters Christine Lavin, John Gorka, Patty Larkin, Cheryl Wheeler <\/strong>and Cliff Eberhardt <\/strong>in the\u00a0Pollak Theatre On November 16 at 8 PM.<\/strong> These are among the brightest stars of the folk singer\/songwriter movement for the past three decades. In 1994, Christine Lavin gathered them together to showcase music of the winter season on the now-classic On A Winter\u2019s Night CD<\/strong>, followed by several years of touring collaborations. These artists have released dozens of recordings and toured steadily through the decades, with fond memories of their touring days together.<\/p>\n

Now, the 25th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary reunion concert celebrates the original CD and brings in the winter season with traditional and contemporary folk music. The wildly entertaining\u00a0Christine Lavin<\/strong>\u00a0is working on her 24th<\/sup>\u00a0solo album and was inducted into the NY Music Hall of fame earlier this year.\u00a0John Gorka<\/strong>\u00a0has been hailed by Rolling Stones as \u201cthe leading singer\/songwriter of the New Folk movement.\u201d The New Jersey native won the New Folk award at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1984 and as of last year released his 14th<\/sup>\u00a0career album.\u00a0Cheryl Wheeler<\/strong>\u00a0is a dynamic and hysterical performer whose songs have been covered by artists like Peter Paul and Mary, Garth Brooks and Bette Midler.\u00a0Patty Larkin<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>redefines the boundaries of folk-urban pop music with her inventive guitar wizardry and uncompromising lyrics and vocals. She is currently producing her 14th<\/sup>\u00a0album,\u00a0Bird In A Cage.<\/em>\u00a0Philadelphia-born\u00a0Cliff Eberhardt<\/strong>\u00a0is a highly intelligent, articulate artist whose penetrating and profound lyrics are sometimes overshadowed by his extraordinary guitar playing. These five musicians come together to continue to carry the torch for traditional and contemporary folk music while celebrating the winter season.<\/p>\n
