A season filled with innovative programming, legendary music, significant authors and ground-breaking visual artists.<\/p>\n<p>The new season begins on <strong>September 28,<\/strong> with the highly anticipated return of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/kiss-the-sky-the-jimi-hendrix-experience\/\"><strong>Kiss the Sky<\/strong><\/a>, a meticulous re-production of the most iconic moments of Jimi Hendrix\u2019s majestic career featuring virtuoso guitarist Jimy Bleu, part of a week-long series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary Woodstock. Known as the female Bob Dylan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/an-evening-with-melanie\/\"><strong>Melanie<\/strong><\/a> takes the stage on <strong>October 4<\/strong> to perform signature hits such as <em>Brand New Key (Roller Skate Song)<\/em>, and <em>Peace Will Come<\/em>. On <strong>October 11<\/strong> Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/i-wrote-that-one-too-a-life-in-songwriting-from-willie-to-whitney-starring-steve-dorff\/\"><strong>Steve Dorff<\/strong><\/a>, who penned over 20 Top 10 hits for artists around the world such as Barbra Streisand, Willie Nelson, Celine Dion, and Alison Kraus will perform many of his best loved hits and share the fascinating stories behind them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/the-5th-dimension\/\"><strong>The 5th Dimension<\/strong><\/a> will bring their legendary harmonies to Pollak Theatre on <strong>October 18<\/strong>. Florence LaRue and company have amassed thousands of fans all over the world with classics like <em>Up, Up, and Away, One Less Bell to Answer, Last Night I Didn\u2019t Get to Sleep At All, Wedding Bell Blues, Stoned Soul Picnic<\/em>, and the iconic <em>Aquarius\/Let the Sun Shine In<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>America\u2019s Got Talent <\/em>Finalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/earth-harp\/\"><strong>William Close and the Earth Harp Collective<\/strong><\/a> returns to Pollak Theatre with a majestic harp that spans the audience and creates beautifully haunting music that never fails to enchant on<strong> November 2.<\/strong> On <strong>November 16<\/strong>, The Center celebrates the 25th Anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/40802236475\/\"><strong>On A Winter\u2019s Night<\/strong><\/a> from veteran singer-songwriters Christine Lavin, John Gorka, Patty Larkin, Cheryl Wheeler and Cliff Eberhardt.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/orchestra-of-st-peter-by-the-sea-3\/\"> <strong>Father Alphonse Stephenson and the Orchestra of Saint Peter by the Sea<\/strong><\/a> perform their 29th annual holiday concert of carols and seasonal favorites on <strong>December 6.<\/strong> Led by Joanie Madden, one greatest of the musicians and personalities history of Irish music in America, the Grammy Award nominated super group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/cherish-the-ladies-3\/\"><strong>Cherish The Ladies<\/strong> <\/a>returns to the Pollak on <strong>February 28<\/strong> for a concert of Celtic music celebrating their 35th anniversary. On <strong>March 7<\/strong>, the legendary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/the-smithereens-with-guest-vocalist-marshall-crenshaw\/\"><strong>Marshall Crenshaw<\/strong><\/a> of The Marshall Crenshaw Band and Beatlemania fame joins New Jersey rock heroes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/the-smithereens-with-guest-vocalist-marshall-crenshaw\/\"><strong>The Smithereens<\/strong><\/a> for an evening of hits such as A <em>Girl Like You, Blood and Roses, <\/em>and<em> Blue Period<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Dance, film, and virtual reality collide when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/bridgman-packer-dance\/\"><strong>Bridgman|Packer Dance<\/strong><\/a> presents <em>Voyeur<\/em> and other works on <strong>November 15<\/strong>. Inspired by artist Edward Hopper, the performance features choreographer\/performers Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer\u2019s innovative work in \u201cVideo Partnering\u201d\u2014the integration of live performance and video technology.\u00a0 On <strong>February 8<\/strong>, Jade Solomon\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/black-like-me\/\"><strong><em>Black Like Me<\/em><\/strong><\/a> considers hateful rhetoric through dance, verbal, visual and sonic language in five narratives and perspectives..<\/p>\n<p>Steve Solomon brings twenty characters to life on <strong>March 28<\/strong> in his one-man Broadway show, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/my-mothers-italian-my-fathers-jewish-im-in-therapy\/\"><strong><em>My Mother\u2019s Italian, My Father\u2019s Jewish &amp; I\u2019m in Therapy<\/em><\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>The incredibly popular <strong>Live in HD<\/strong> series satellites the world renowned <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/series\/the-metropolitan-opera\/\">Metropolitan Opera<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/series\/national-theatre\/\">National Theatre<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>Bolshoi Ballet<\/strong> to Pollak Theatre beginning with Puccini\u2019s <em>Turnadot<\/em> on <strong>October 12<\/strong> followed by Jules Massenet\u2019s <em>Manon<\/em> on the 26. The National Theatre\u2019s season includes<em> The Lehman Brothers<\/em>, directed by Sam Mendes, (September 26), <em>All About Eve<\/em> starring Gillian Anderson (October 10) and a 10th anniversary encore of the beloved Richard Bean production, <em>One Man, Two Guvnors<\/em> (October 24) starring <em>The Late Late Show\u2019s<\/em> own James Corden. The Bolshoi Ballet begins on October 27 with <em>Raymonda<\/em> and includes <em>Giselle, Swan Lake, and Romeo and Juliet<\/em> among others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/series\/tuesday-night-record-club\/\"><strong>Tuesday Night Record Club<\/strong><\/a> resumes with The Beatles album, <em>Abbey Road<\/em> on September 17th, and will also cover albums by Bruce Springsteen, Dave Brubeck, Beyonce, and Marvin Gaye throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>A new film series called<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/series\/great-art-on-screen\/\"><strong> Great Art on Screen<\/strong><\/a> presented with the same impeccable quality as the Live in HD Series will feature new immersive documentaries on visual art\u2019s great masters with titles like <em>Tintoretto: a Rebel in Venice<\/em> (September 23) and <em>Gauguin in Tahiti: Paradise Lost <\/em>(October 21.)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/series\/world-cinema-series\/\"><strong>World Cinema Series<\/strong><\/a> will explore women as leaders of change in patriarchal cultures and include films like <em>Lemon Tree<\/em> (January 28<strong>), <\/strong><em>The Eagle Huntress <\/em>(February 26), and <em>Persepolis<\/em> (April 23) and others in a robust lineup this season.<\/p>\n<p>The uniquely brilliant Alexandra Kleeman (September 27) will be part of this season\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/series\/visiting-writers-series\/\"><strong>Visiting Writers Series <\/strong><\/a>along with Taije Silverman (November 18) and Jordy Rosenberg (April 7).<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the University\u2019s three galleries will mount <em>Woodstock &amp; Beyond, <\/em>photographs of legendary moments in rock history by Mike Frankel;<em> Throughline <\/em>a retrospective of 30 years of work by Karen Bright and an special installation of Wolfgang Staehle\u2019s <em>2001<\/em> in partnership with The National September 11 Memorial &amp; Museum and will showcase some of the area\u2019s most impactful visual artists while also featuring student works.<\/p>\n<p>Look for the 2019-2020 Season Brochure appearing soon, for details on other exciting happenings on the Monmouth campus, including gallery exhibitions and additional events in the ArtNow series.
