{"id":40802227438,"date":"2018-11-02T14:04:23","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T18:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/?p=40802227438"},"modified":"2021-04-15T09:19:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T13:19:49","slug":"the-doo-wop-project-returns-to-monmouth-u-with-a-set-of-heavenly-harmonies-for-the-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/the-doo-wop-project-returns-to-monmouth-u-with-a-set-of-heavenly-harmonies-for-the-holidays\/","title":{"rendered":"The Doo Wop Project returns to Monmouth U, with a set of heavenly harmonies for the holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Center for the Arts at <strong>Monmouth University<\/strong> has announced that tickets are now on sale for a November 29, 2018 holiday concert by the dynamic vocal group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/event\/doowop18-aspx\/\"><strong>The Doo Wop Project<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Scheduled for 8 p.m. inside the <strong>Pollak Theatre<\/strong>, the one-night engagement represents an encore appearance at Monmouth for the quintet of \u201ccharismatic, handsome, triple-threat Broadway stars\u201d whose specialty centers around bridging the traditions of gospel, folk, rhythm and blues \u2014 the classic vocal soul known for all time as Doo Wop \u2014 with the contemporary pop music that continues to draw inspiration from the sounds of decades past.<\/p>\n<p>While the singers of The Doo Wop Project pride themselves on the ability to transform any stage into a figurative street corner in the old neighborhood, November\u2019s return to campus finds them swapping out the corner streetlamp for a candy-striped North Pole, as the harmonizing crew performs a collection of holiday standards that range from the sacred to the secular, and the downright sublime.<\/p>\n<p>The five vocalists weren\u2019t on the scene when groups like The Del Vikings, The Flamingos and The Belmonts ruled the radio airwaves \u2014 but as cast members of some of the most popular jukebox musicals of all time, the Project teammates boast a deep familiarity with the timeless signature songs of such urban serenaders as The Four Seasons, The Temptations, and The Miracles.<\/p>\n<p>Reuniting in The Doo Wop Project are three former \u201cJersey Boys\u201d \u2014 Dominic Scaglione Jr. (Frankie Valli in the Broadway, Vegas and Chicago companies), Russell Fischer (Joe Pesci on Broadway), and Dominic Nolfi, an original cast member of \u201cA Bronx Tale: The Musical.\u201d Nolfi, who was also featured in the original cast of \u201cMotown: The Musical,\u201d joins two fellow veterans of that troupe \u2014 including Charl Brown (a Tony nominee in the role of Smokey Robinson), and, as the group\u2019s \u201cMr. Bass Man,\u201d the multitalented actor, singer, producer and comedy writer Dwayne Cooper.<\/p>\n<p>Together with music director and arranger Sonny Paladino, the men from the Project pack enough star-wattage talent to light every streetlamp \u201cFrom Here to Eternity.\u201d When they hit the Pollak stage on November 29, they\u2019ll be taking the audience on a sweet sleigh ride that shows off their spot-on recreations of such vintage hits as \u201c I Wonder Why\u201d and \u201cI Only Have Eyes For You,\u201d as well as their trademark \u201cre-doos\u201d of songs by Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Maroon 5 \u2014 and of course, such heartwarming holiday chestnuts as Kenny Vance\u2019s \u201cDoo Wop Christmas\u201d and Charles Brown\u2019s \u201cPlease Come Home for Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for the November 29 performance of A Doo Wop Project Holiday are priced at $25 and $35, with a Gold Circle seating option available for $50.
