{"id":40802218858,"date":"2018-03-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/the-met-announces-2018-19-live-in-hd-season\/"},"modified":"2018-09-17T14:32:29","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T18:32:29","slug":"the-met-announces-2018-19-live-in-hd-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/the-met-announces-2018-19-live-in-hd-season\/","title":{"rendered":"The Met: Announces 2018-19 Live in HD Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Met: Live in HD<\/em> , the Metropolitan Opera&#8217;s award-winning series of live high-definition cinema simulcasts, will begin its 13th season on October 6, with the Met&#8217;s grand production of Verdi&#8217;s <em>Aida<\/em> , starring one of the world&#8217;s most acclaimed sopranos, <strong>Anna Netrebko<\/strong> .<\/p>\n<p>The company also announced that <strong>Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin<\/strong> will become the Met&#8217;s Music Director for the start of the 2018-19 season, accelerating his arrival in the post by two seasons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is wonderful for the entire company that Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin will assume the position of Music Director two seasons ahead of schedule,&#8221; said General Manager <strong>Peter\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Gelb<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8220;The orchestra loves him, the chorus loves him, everyone in the building loves him. He is a truly great artist under whom the Met will only thrive.&#8221; \u00a0It was also announced that the Neubauer Family Foundation, founding sponsors of the Met&#8217;s <em>Live in HD<\/em> \u00a0transmissions to movie theaters, has made a $15 million gift to name the Music Director position in honor of N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin&#8217;s <strong>\u00a0<\/strong> appointment. In recognition of this gift, the position will be called the <strong>Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director<\/strong> . \u00a0Gelb said, &#8220;The Met is so fortunate to be the recipient of such enlightened and generous philanthropy from two of our most loyal supporters, who believe in the power of transformative gifts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 2018-19 <em>Live in HD<\/em> season features ten transmissions, including four new productions: Saint-Sa\u00ebns&#8217;s <em>Samson et Dalila<\/em> , <em>\u00a0<\/em> directed by <strong>Darko Tresnjak<\/strong> \u00a0and conducted by <strong>Sir Mark Elder<\/strong> with <strong>El\u012bna Garan\u010da<\/strong> and <strong>Roberto Alagna<\/strong> in the title roles; the U.S. premiere production of <strong>\u00a0Nico Muhly<\/strong> &#8216;s <em>Marnie,<\/em> based on Winston Graham&#8217;s suspenseful thriller, directed by <strong>Michael Mayer<\/strong> with <strong>Isabel Leonard<\/strong> as the title character; <strong>Mayer&#8217;<\/strong> s new staging of Verdi&#8217;s <em>La Traviata,<\/em> conducted by incoming Met Music Director <strong>Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin<\/strong> and starring <strong>Diana Damrau<\/strong> , <strong>\u00a0Juan Diego Fl\u00f3rez<\/strong> , and <strong>Quinn Kelsey<\/strong> ; and Cilea&#8217;s <em>Adriana Lecouvreur<\/em> , <em>\u00a0<\/em> starring <strong>Anna Netrebko<\/strong> in the title role, conducted by <strong>Gianandrea Noseda<\/strong> in <strong>Sir David McVicar&#8217;s<\/strong> new staging. In addition to <em>Aida<\/em> \u00a0and the four new productions, <em>Live in HD<\/em> audiences will have the chance to see Poulenc&#8217;s 20th-century masterpiece <em>Dialogues des Carm\u00e9lites<\/em> \u00a0for the first time in cinemas, conducted by <strong>Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin<\/strong> , along with classic revivals of Puccini&#8217;s <em>La Fanciulla del West<\/em> , <em>\u00a0<\/em> with <strong>Eva-Maria Westbroek<\/strong> \u00a0as Minnie and <strong>Jonas Kaufmann<\/strong> \u00a0as Dick Johnson <strong>; Richard Eyre<\/strong> &#8216;s acclaimed production of Bizet&#8217;s <em>Carmen<\/em> , starring <strong>Cl\u00e9mentine Margaine<\/strong> \u00a0as the alluring gypsy, opposite <strong>Roberto Alagna<\/strong> \u00a0as Don Jos\u00e9; <strong>Laurent Pelly<\/strong> &#8216;s <em>\u00a0<\/em> whimsical reimagining of Donizetti&#8217;s <em>La Fille du R\u00e9giment<\/em> , with <strong>\u00a0Javier Camarena<\/strong> and <strong>\u00a0Pretty Yende<\/strong> as Tonio and Marie; and the most popular of Wagner&#8217;s four epic <em>\u00a0Ring<\/em> operas, <em>\u00a0Die Walk\u00fcre<\/em> , <strong>\u00a0<\/strong> with <strong>Christine Goerke<\/strong> as Br\u00fcnnhilde.<\/p>\n<p>The Met: Live in HD is the largest provider of alternative cinema content in the world, with more than 24 million tickets sold since the inception of the series in 2006. The series brings live Met performances to more than 2,200 movie theaters and performing arts centers in more than 70 countries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Season at a Glance: <em>The Met: Live in HD<\/em> 2018-19<\/strong><br \/>\nThe <em>Live in HD<\/em> \u00a0season will begin on Saturday, October 6 at 12:55PM with <em>Aida<\/em> .
