Artivism or \u201cactivist art\u201d is a form of social commentary that explores cultural and political concerns. However, it is much more than just an innovative tactic, Artivism involves an entire a practice that attempts to inspire positive change in society. Monmouth University\u2019s Center for the Arts is inviting artists to submit works of art that employ symbolism and collective participation to fight for issues of social justice including racial discrimination, gender equality, fair labor practices, human rights and more. A maximum of three pieces can be submitted by each artist and can include, but is not limited to: drawing, mixed media, painting, small installation, fine crafts, photography, lithographs and sculpture.<\/p>\n<p>Consistent with its mission statement and core values, Monmouth University prepares students \u201cto become engaged citizens in a diverse and increasingly interdependent world.\u201d Beyond excellence in teaching, learning and service, Monmouth\u2019s campus is characterized by \u201cmutual respect; personal and professional integrity, and diversity.\u201d Monmouth University, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to reject submissions that it deems inconsistent with these values. Artivism applauds artists as engaged citizens; however, absolutely no work will be accepted that promotes violence or vulgarity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Submit: <\/strong><br \/>\nInterested artists should submit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a one-page description of the work (pdf or doc)<\/li>\n<li>supporting materials (images, videos or other documents)<\/li>\n<li>an artist bio<\/li>\n<li>completed <a title=\"submission form\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/mca\/documents\/artivism-submission-form.pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">submission form<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>to <a title=\"https:\/\/spaces.hightail.com\/uplink\/muarts\" href=\"https:\/\/spaces.hightail.com\/uplink\/muarts\">https:\/\/spaces.hightail.com\/uplink\/muarts<\/a> or by mail to Monmouth University Center for the Arts, 400 Cedar Ave, West Long Branch, NJ 07764. Entries will not be returned, so please send a copy. A maximum of three pieces can be submitted. The call for entries closes at midnight on <strong>January 31, 2018<\/strong>. Participants will be notified by February 15, 2018. Shipping of accepted work to Monmouth University is the responsibility of artist unless otherwise negotiated.
