The Monmouth University Galleries and Permanent Art Collection is currently online, where visitors can view images of more than 300 of the University\u2019s 2,500+ objects. More images are on the way, as the rest of the holdings will be added in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>So often, the vast majority of a university or museum art collection remains unseen due to the lack of available time to display works in existing exhibition spaces. The online digital database provides an efficient link for information on individual works of art and artists, exhibition themes, as well as university and public programming.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of ways that the expansion of the collection will benefit the campus and the community. Monmouth University faculty will have the capability to access the collection and integrate the material into their curriculum when applicable. Additionally, providing the collection online will make the works available to students, scholars, artists, and anyone else interested. The art can be used in research, scholarly activities, or simply for general viewing. \u00a0Providing the collection online will also afford viewers a more immersive, individualized, and extensive experience to view this diverse, beautiful art collection.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of The Monmouth University Galleries and Permanent Art Collection is to collect, preserve, study, interpret, and exhibit significant works of art. These collections support the University\u2019s educational mission while promoting an appreciation, understanding, and enjoyment of the visual arts for the university and its various constituencies. With the recent initiative, this mission now includes being able to more extensively share the University\u2019s thought-provoking collection of art in an entirely new way with the goal of reaching expanded audiences.
