{"id":6273,"date":"2019-06-14T14:56:48","date_gmt":"2019-06-14T18:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/magazine\/?p=6273"},"modified":"2023-01-09T11:27:43","modified_gmt":"2023-01-09T16:27:43","slug":"remembrance-william-tepfenhart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/magazine\/remembrance-william-tepfenhart\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembrance: William  Tepfenhart"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Dr. Tepfenhart captivated students and colleagues with his wild imagination, wry sense of humor, and dazzling intellect during his 20 years at the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I knew him through my graduate studies\u2014 specifically from his course MIS-517: Database Design and Management. I had enrolled in the MS in Information Systems program after earning a bachelor\u2019s in English, and I was struggling. It got to the point where it was difficult for me to catch up with the other students and truly understand the concepts we were learning. Then I took Dr. Tepfenhart\u2019s class. He took me aside and said, \u201cYou\u2019re strong at this; I want you to use your English skills too.\u201d He never tried to stifle my English skills, or overwrite them with coding and technology skills. He taught me that I could complement my two realms of study in harmony, not in strife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every student I know who was lucky enough to have Dr. Tepfenhart has a similar story. He challenged us intensely and rewarded us greatly.
