Lewandowski Jr. is a professor and former chair in the&nbsp;Department of Psychology. His research, writing, and public speaking focus on three main areas: romantic relationships, self and identity, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lewandowski\u2019s new book, <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.littlebrownspark.com\/titles\/gary-w-lewandowski-jr-phd\/stronger-than-you-think\/9780316454711\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stronger Than You Think: The 10 Blind Spots That Undermine Your Relationship\u2026and How to See Past Them<\/a><\/em>, presents a refreshing and eye-opening set of mind-tingling insights through a blend of hot-off-the-press science, engaging writing, impactful examples, expert insights, and storytelling. He spoke with us recently about it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>Describe your book in three sentences or less.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p>In relationships, it\u2019s easy to know what you want, but hard to know what you have. Worse, you\u2019re likely not giving your relationship enough credit. Learn research-based remedies to counteract the blind spots that are holding you back, so you can see how your relationship is stronger than you think. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>What is the most surprising thing you learned while doing research for your book?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p>You\u2019d think that when things are going well and people are having few problems, they\u2019d simply enjoy it. Yet, one study found that where they weren\u2019t experiencing any big problems, individuals took small problems and inflated them. Relationship science has so much to offer, yet it is hard to find outside of academic journals. People love learning about relationships, so making that research accessible will open readers\u2019 eyes to a lot of what they\u2019ve been missing. When people have better data, they can make better decisions, which can only help their relationships.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>Best relationship advice you ever received?<\/strong> <strong>And who was it from?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p>She didn\u2019t necessarily mean it as relationship advice, but my mom often said, \u201cBeing smart is knowing what you don\u2019t know.\u201d It\u2019s a reminder that experience isn\u2019t the same as expertise, and that overconfidence in the wrong information is a relationship killer. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>What is the most common relationship question you get?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p>\u201cAm I in a good relationship?\u201d or a version of that where the questioner wonders if an aspect of their relationship is a good sign, or something they should worry about.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>Best date you\u2019ve ever been on?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p>On my wife\u2019s birthday we went to a taping of <em>The View<\/em> in New York City, followed by lunch at a small Italian place. Afterward we went on a horse and carriage ride in Central Park, where I proposed. Since she said \u201cyes.\u201d It easily qualifies as the best date.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>Who is your favorite&nbsp;author?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p>Michael Crichton. I loved how he was able to weave complicated science concepts into captivating stories. Plus, dinosaurs are cool.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>What book are you currently reading?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p><em>How to Be an Antiracist<\/em> by Ibram X. Kendi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-qa qa\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-question question\">\n<p><strong>What book changed your life?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-magazine-answer answer\">\n<p><em>Tuesdays with Morrie<\/em>. I read it before every semester to remind me of what\u2019s truly important when I\u2019m teaching: helping others live a better, more meaningful life. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div
