Monmouth University conducts systematic assessments at all institutional levels. Driven by the institution\u2019s mission and the broad goals set for undergraduate and graduate students, the educational assessment processes occur in various forms and levels. The general education requirements include key liberal arts subject areas deemed important by the institution and its faculty for the holistic development of undergraduate students. Through course-level and program-level student learning outcomes, student performance is assessed to inform course and program-level decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission and Learning Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n

Monmouth University has identified six broad learning goals that align with the institutional mission of integrating liberal arts with science and professional programs. The goals emphasize lifelong learning for students and are articulated for undergraduate and graduate programs outlined in the two catalogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The broad institutional learning goals for students are outlined as follows. \u201cA well-educated student prepared to embark on a journey of lifelong learning will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. be empowered with a mastery of practical and intellectual skills, including writing, reading, speaking, qualitative and quantitative reasoning, technology, information literacy, and critical thinking;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. be informed by knowledge of the natural and social sciences and basic forms of inquiry, including competence in basic research skills, scientific method, collaborative problem solving, and working in interdisciplinary groups;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. have self-understanding based upon reflection, judgment, self-examination, independence of mind, and creativity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. have an understanding of the human experience based upon knowledge of history, culture, interdependence, equality, justice, diversity, commonality, and contemporary global affairs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. be responsible for ethics in social interactions, community involvement, and civic action; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n
