This means that discrimination and harassment are not acceptable at Monmouth University. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/equity-and-diversity\/discrimination-and-harassment\/\">Office of Equity and Diversity (OED)<\/a> is committed to fostering an environment at Monmouth University where all people, regardless of background, identity, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, feel welcomed.<\/p>\n<p>Persons connected with Monmouth University who believe they have experienced discrimination, harassment, or retaliation may bring their concerns to the Office of Equity and Diversity.<br \/>\nInformation about or assistance with discrimination and harassment issues may be obtained from a variety of University resources.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What is a Bias Incident or Crime?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Bias Incident<\/strong>\u2013 A \u201cBias Incident\u201d is defined an act \u2013 either verbal, written, physical, or psychological that threatens or harms a person or group on the basis of actual or perceived race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, civil union status, domestic partnership status, atypical heredity or cellular blood trait, military service or veteran status (or other protected class).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bias Crime<\/strong>&#8211; A Bias Crime is a crime that threatens or harms a person or group on the basis of actual or perceived race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, civil union status, domestic partnership status, atypical heredity or cellular blood trait, military service or veteran status (or other protected class).<\/p>\n<h3>What to Report<\/h3>\n<p>If you are not sure you have experienced a hate crime and would like to discuss the incident, please call the Office of Equity and Diversity at 732-571-7577. Even if a reported incident is not one that constitutes a hate crime or an incident that violates a University policy, we will learn from the reports and obtain feedback on how we can improve some aspect of the campus climate. Reports may result in individual education or new efforts to improve some aspect of campus life.<\/p>\n<p>In all instances, individuals who experience acts of hate, bias, harassment or discrimination should feel they have a safe space in which to report the behavior and receive support. Monmouth University is committed to provide such safe spaces and to support a comprehensive reporting mechanism for incidents of bias so that we may better understand our campus climate and work continuously to improve it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class='rectangle grey '><\/p>\n<h2>Reporting Resources<\/h2>\n<h3>NEW: Report a biased incident or crime <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/equity-and-diversity\/report-bias-incident-or-crime\/\">via online form<\/a><\/strong>, including the option to remain anonymous.<\/h3>\n<p>If you witness or have experienced a hate or bias related incident that requires an emergency response, please dial 9-1-1 directly.<\/p>\n<p>The University is also committed to providing a number of safe spaces for community members to explore their reporting options in non-emergency situations. The staff of these offices has been trained to be welcoming and sensitive to student, staff and community concerns. Please do not feel boxed in to any one category or office.
