Join the Monmouth University community for a special celebratory event recognizing the acquisition of the Julian Abele Special Collection, the designation of the Great Hall as an official site on the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail, and the dedication of the Julian Abele Room. The program will include remarks from the direct descendants of Julian Abele. Visitor parking will be available.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julian Francis Abele (1881\u20131950) was a pioneering American architect and one of the most accomplished designers of his era. He was the first African American graduate of the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s School of Architecture and went on to have a profound, though long under-recognized, impact on American architecture- including serving as the Chief Designer of our campus\u2019 marquee building, the Great Hall at Shadow Lawn.
