The University provides a variety of leave programs based on an employee\u2019s length of service, employee type, and collective bargaining agreement as applicable. Leave is defined as an authorized absence from work. Leave is granted to employees for various reasons such as vacation, personal or family illness, bereavement, care for a child or family member, and military service.<\/p>\n\n\n
The University\u2019s annual vacation year is from July 1 through June 30. Benefit eligible employees earn vacation leave each pay period on their anniversary date. Employees are asked to request authorization to use vacation in advance whenever possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When there is a death in the immediate family of a full-time employee, a leave of absence with pay may be granted for as many as three working days at the time of death. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible for leave with pay when serving on jury duty and for other court-ordered appearances. Presentation of proper evidence of jury service is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
FMLA is a federal law in the United States that allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for specific family or medical reasons while also providing job protection. The leave can be taken concurrently or intermittently based on the employee\u2019s needs and is supported by medical documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Full time employees are eligible for thirteen paid holidays each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Similar to the federal FMLA regulation, the State of new jersey provides a job protection for family leave for eligible employees to care for a family member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parental leave is time off from work that parents can take for the birth, adoption, or fostering of a child. This time off allows parents to bond with their child, handle necessary responsibilities, and manage the demands of early parenthood. Parental leave may begin as early as two weeks before the expected date of the parental event and must be completed within the first year of the birth, adoption, or placement of the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The employee may choose to use any additional paid benefits offered, personal accrued leave, unpaid leave, or a combination of paid and unpaid leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regular full-time and part-time University employees whose military obligations interrupt or interfere with their employment have certain job protection provided by the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994. The Act protects members of National Guard units, reservists, inductees and enlistees into the Armed Forces who volunteer for or are ordered to active duty for the Federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A New Jersey employee who is a victim of domestic violence or any sexually violent offense, or whose child, parent, spouse, domestic partner, or civil union partner was a victim of domestic violence or any sexually violent offense, may take unpaid time off from work<\/p>\n\n\n\n
