Welcome to the Honors School at Monmouth University!
Being the Dean of the Honors School is a great joy and responsibility. My job is to ensure that our high achieving, high ability, and highly motivated students receive the guidance, support, and fuel they need to take a deep dive into their intellectual passions, explore fields of study that expand those passions, and connect them with like-minded students and faculty.
Our flexible curriculum allows students to take ownership of their education. The curriculum culminates in an honors capstone project that provides students the time and space to engage in serious academic work in which they ask important and challenging questions, work toward solving difficult problems, and create and share new knowledge. All along the intellectual journey, our students are supported through academic advising and an engaged host of faculty and staff.
In addition to being Dean, I am also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer. In the Peace Corps, I spent nearly three years in Mali teaching people how to garden and also learning about their culture. When I returned to the United States, I went back to school to get my Ph.D. in sociology. While I take my academic career very seriously, similar to so many of our honors students, I have many other interests. I play the oboe in MU’s Chamber Orchestra and I love to bike, hike, and kayak.
We would love to get to know you better too by learning about your intellectual passions and personal interests. Please find out more about the Honors School by checking out the rest of our website. We also encourage you to stop by our office, located on the 2nd floor of the Library (Lib 208) where you will find snacks, hot beverages, the friendly Honors School staff, and a host of undergraduate and graduate student workers.
I would also like you to meet the rest of our team; we are all here to greet, help, guide you, and help you feel included in our community.
