The HPL, located in the Monmouth University Graduate Center (Room 222), aims to become a center of distinction at Monmouth University by providing applied learning experiences in movement science courses, fostering faculty and student research in human performance, and advancing health initiatives through community partnerships.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:2rem\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center is-image-fill-element is-style-bracket\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 id=\"our-equipment\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Equipment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The HPL features state-of-the-art technology for advanced performance analysis. Its equipment includes Podium ground force plates, wireless eight-channel EMGs for measuring muscle response to electrical activity, a VO2 Master for metabolic testing, and isokinetic dynamometry for measuring joint torque. It measures cardiovascular fitness directly with our metabolic cart (VO2max), including threshold and training zone determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"force-plates\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Force Plates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Force plate testing is useful for athletes competing in bounding events, such as vertical and horizontal jumps, as well as for force-velocity profile, asymmetry testing, and repeated jumps.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:3rem\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-bracket\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 id=\"our-coursework\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Coursework<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students gain hands-on experience in the lab through movement science courses, such as PE-215 Fitness Measurement, PE-320 Exercise Physiology, PE-330 Biomechanics and Kinesiology, and PE-410 Exercise Testing and Prescription.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" style=\"object-position: 69.2625% 44.16%\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/health-and-physical-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/404\/2025\/04\/Human-Performance-Lab_20250122_MG_013A4313-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"A man shows a display with a checkberboard pattern to two women. The lab offers comprehensive exercise testing and fitness evaluations for students, researchers, athletes and members of the community. providing up-to-date evaluations and recommendations. Using a metabolic analyzer, students conduct cardiorespiratory testing. Students can also analyze body composition through skinfold assessment and bioelectrical impedance analysis. They also gain experience with advanced biomechanical analysis through the integration of motion capture analysis, force plate, and electromyographic analysis.
