About Our Alum

Ashley McPeek graduated from Monmouth University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, K-12. Ashely was teaching Physical Education at Shore Regional High School (West Long Branch, NJ) when she decided to earn a master’s degree in Human and Applied Physiology at King’s College London, UK. Ashley interned at Michigan Heart, a member of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, before becoming a Cardio-Pulmonary Clinician at NYU Langone Medical Center.

Ashley said, “My Monmouth experience was one I will never forget. From playing field hockey with some of my best friends to establishing lasting relationships with my professors, I don’t think many schools can offer as much as Monmouth.” What she likes best about her career is that she has the opportunity to meet and help many different people. Ashley explained, “Cardiovascular health affects all sizes, shapes and ages. My academic training has helped me to convey complex information related to heart health, healthy eating, and physical activity to individuals with unique goals.”

For her student teaching experience, Ashley taught Health and Physical Education to 9th to 12th grade students at Shore Regional High School (West Long Branch, NJ). Ashley said, “After the completion of my student teaching, I never felt more prepared to teach at the high school level. My student teaching experience taught me about life after college and the importance of deadlines, collegiality, and communication.”

Professor Julie Schaaff said, “Friendly, outgoing, and motivated to excel are attributes that come to mind when I think about Ashley. She is a natural leader – frequently offering to demonstrate movements in Biomechanics and always willing to help other students understand and apply the material. She is passionate about health and fitness and went the ‘extra mile’ on all assignments and projects.”
