{"id":890,"date":"2019-09-12T15:25:31","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T15:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/finaid\/?page_id=890"},"modified":"2022-09-29T21:02:59","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T21:02:59","slug":"eligibility-for-aid","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/finaid\/getting-started\/eligibility-for-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"Eligibility for Aid"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>To be eligible to receive federal student aid are that a student must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Demonstrate financial need (most federal programs)<\/li><li>Be a U.S. citizen or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/understand-aid\/eligibility\/requirements\/non-us-citizens\">eligible non-citizen<\/a><\/li><li>Have a valid Social Security number<\/li><li>Maintain\u00a0<a data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1001\" href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/finaid\/maintaining-your-aid\/sap\/\">Satisfactory Academic Progress<\/a>\u00a0at Monmouth University.<\/li><li>Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible degree or certificate program<\/li><li>Be enrolled on at least a half-time (6-credit) basis to be eligible for Direct Loan program funds<\/li><li>Sign statements on the FAFSA certifying that:<ul><li>you are not in default on a federal student loan,<\/li><li>\u00a0you do not owe money on a federal student grant, and that<\/li><li>you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Show you\u2019re qualified to obtain a college education by:<ul><li>Having a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate<\/li><li>Completing a high school education in a homeschool setting approved under state law<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>New Jersey residents must meet all the federal eligibility criteria and the following state eligibility criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Be a citizen, eligible non-citizen, or eligible to file the NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application<\/li><li>Demonstrate New Jersey residency for at least 12 months immediately prior to enrollment<\/li><li>Not have received the maximum number of grant payments.<\/li><li>Not owe a refund of a state grant.<\/li><li>Not be in default on a state loan.<\/li><li>Not be enrolled in a program leading to a degree in theology or divinity<\/li><li>Be a full-time student enrolled in an approved degree or certificate program at an approved institution in NJ<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the general eligibility criteria noted above, individual grants, scholarships, and loans may have eligibility criteria specific to a particular award.&nbsp; Please see the individual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/finaid\/undergraduate-aid\/grants-and-scholarships\/\">grants, scholarships<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/finaid\/undergraduate-aid\/loans\/\">loans<\/a>&nbsp; descriptions&nbsp;in order to determine if there are any additional eligibility criteria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To be eligible to receive federal student aid are that a student must: Demonstrate financial need (most federal programs) Be a U.S. citizen or\u00a0eligible non-citizen Have a valid Social Security number Maintain\u00a0Satisfactory Academic Progress\u00a0at Monmouth University.
