{"id":882,"date":"2019-09-12T15:24:29","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T15:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/finaid\/?page_id=882"},"modified":"2025-10-16T17:05:02","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T17:05:02","slug":"applying","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/finaid\/getting-started\/applying\/","title":{"rendered":"Applying For Aid"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We try to make applying for financial aid as simple as possible.\u00a0 Monmouth University uses only the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as its application for all aid programs; we do not require or accept the College Board\u2019s CSS Profile. \u00a0The FAFSA must be completed for each year in which you want financial aid and can be filed on or after October 1 each year.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monmouth doesn\u2019t have a deadline for filing the FAFSA, but there are some types of aid that are limited and are awarded on a \u201cfirst come, first served\u201d basis &#8211; you\u2019ll want to get your FAFSA done sooner rather than later in order to be considered for those awards.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"steps-to-complete-the-fafsa\">Steps to complete the FAFSA<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"create-a-studentaidgov-account\">Create a StudentAid.gov <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/fsa-id\/create-account\/launch\">Account<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Create a username and password that will be used to access and \u201csign\u201d your FAFSA electronically.\u00a0 Students and parents of <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\/filling-out\/dependency\">dependent students<\/a> will need to have one.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll need your Social Security number, mobile phone number and\/or email address. The StudentAid.gov account is also used throughout the financial aid process to e-sign loan documents and manage student loan accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tip:\u00a0 Parents who created a StudentAid.gov account as a student themselves or for an older student do not need to create another one. The same account can be used on FAFSAs for multiple students in the family.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"gather-your-documents\"><strong>Gather your documents<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>You will need your tax filing filing status and select information from your federal tax return.  Child support received during the last full calendar year and receipt of certain federal benefits is also needed. Current bank account balance as well as investment, business and farm net worth may also be needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tip:\u00a0Income information used on the FAFSA is from two year prior, e.g., 2024 income reported on the 2026-27 FAFSA. Assets and marital status are reported as of the day the FAFSA is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"complete-the-fafsa\"><strong>Complete the FAFSA<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Dependent students will invite their parent(s) to contribute to their FAFSA if parent information is required. Parent(s) email address is required to send the invite. Students and contributors to the FAFSA must provide consent to retrieve and disclose federal tax information from the IRS for the student to be eligible for federal aid. You will not be able to view the federal tax information retrieved from the IRS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tip: Be sure to include Monmouth University in your Select Colleges section of the FAFSA!<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"review-the-fafsa-submission-summary\"><strong>Review the FAFSA Submission Summary<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Approximately 1-3 calendar days after you complete the FAFSA you will receive a FAFSA Submission Summary.&nbsp; The FAFSA Submission Summary is contains four tabs of information: Eligibility Overview, FASFA Form Answers, School Information, and Next Steps. The Eligibility Overview tab contains the Student Aid Index and an estimate of the student&#8217;s federal financial aid eligibility. Review the FAFSA Form Answers tab for accuracy.
